Some erotic massage parlours and adult entertainment clubs in Bucharest have a practice of making payments to taxi cab drivers who bring passengers to their establishments.
While most taxi drivers are honest and professional, a few exceptions exist. For this reason, there are cases where a passenger requests a particular address, and the driver tries to persuade the passenger to go to a different destination.
The driver may tell you that the place you're going to is closed, is no good or is too expensive and that they know of a better place. In this case, you must insist on going to the intended destination.
In another situation, taxi drivers may take you to the wrong location and try to convince you that this is the desired destination.
Finally, you may arrive at the original destination only to find a local "benevolent" near the entrance explaining that the place you want to go is closed due to a problem, holiday, or official visit.
Sometimes, the taxi drivers are in contact with these people and will direct you to contact them. The taxi driver will then offer to drive you to a lesser-known but much better destination. Your goal is usually open, so you should decline the offer and check it out.
Taxi travel is convenient, but it can be surprisingly expensive at times. It makes sense to pay attention to the tricks we've outlined here and to take the necessary precautions to avoid them.
